The city of Mitchell does not have a local taxi service. However, on May 17, 1982, the Mitchell Transportation Service (MTS) started service to the Mitchell community. MTS is a city-wide public service funded by city, state and federal governments. MTS provides an economical transportation alternative to the residents of Mitchell and have concentrated their efforts on supplying the transportation needs of the elderly, handicapped, children and anyone without other means of transportation.
$0.75 Adults and Youth $0.50 - Elderly (59 or older) and Handicapped Free - Infants
Please try and call an hour ahead of the time you wish to be picked up. This will allow MTS to serve you more effeciently. However, if this is not possible, you may call for the bus at any time.
Types of Service
1. Door to Door. MTS provides service from your door to your destination. A telephone call to the MTS Dispatch Center (849-2151) will bring the bus to your door. The MTS bus is lift-equipped to aid in the service to handicapped passengers.
2. Kindergarten/Pre-school. This service is provided during the school year. Students will be delivered home from morning kindergarten or transported to school for afternoon sessions. Older students who miss the bus can call for a ride to school.
If you live in the city, pick up the telephone and call the MTS Dispatch Center (849-2151) at city hall. Tell the dispatcher where you are, when you want to be picked up and where you want to go.
